origami records gave us a write up!

Origami vinyl, echo parks newest music symposium posted a review of our record: 'Left Handed Acquisitions'

"There is beautiful instrumentation here, placed on top of beats that don't bash you over the head but take you for a ride instead. You absorb it immediately, but you catch subtleties- expertly placed hi-hat taps, echoing brass, and lots of layers- that make its replay value known even on the first listen. Bravo guys, and thanks to (Foniks) for putting this awesome record in our store! There are 3 copies- come and get the real hop at Origami Vinyl."

URB Magazine Next 1000

Hey party people. I got selected for URB Magazine's Next 1000 competition. I need everybody to cast their vote for yours truly, if you're feeling the track I have on the site of course.

Let me tell you first off that the Urb.com site sucks donkey bits. It's not user optimized at all, especially for the Next 1000 voting. But if you want to vote and support me, you go to:
http://www.urb.com/promotions/next1000/
Click the 'Sign up Here' Button and then click on my link (Foniks). You're supposed to click on the number of stars you think my track is worthy of in order to vote. If you click on the fifth star, you give me a five star rating. However, your vote isn't reflected immediately, and the only way to know if you are actually signed in is if you can leave a comment on my page. Feel free to drop a comment, or just vote and call it a day. I'm not sure if you can vote multiple times, but go ahead and try. Just clear your browser history, sign in again (or sign up w/ an alternate email account) and vote away. Thank you for your votes. I wanna get a foot in the door for what it is the 5Signs crew do.

blog love.

stormy posted the Access Hip Hop Forums Newsletter 2-26-09, with a short review of 5signs "left handed acquisitions"

These days I just don't think listeners are taking enough chances with names unfamiliar to them... but this is some pretty promising stuff, dope downtempo jazzy and soulful beats, just a well rounded releases when you put it all together.

Who are the 5signs? words, pictures and clips...

The 5 signs are a creative partnership of producers aimed at advancing their group and individual agendas. Formed in a living room in Silverlake in early 2008, it was a meeting that was for years in the making.
Accrete (Manny) and ABF (mbela) met through mutual friend Bittah Munk in Pasadena CA in 2006, they worked on a couple of projects that never came through all the while building their individual chops. A year later ABF met Troy (Alcendor) through another mutual friend, a french musician by the name of Crespel (Spel). After an intense jam session the two became really good friends and went through some tough times in both their personal lives.
In mid 2007 ABF moved into an apartment with an interesting individual named Kyle (NSOK). Kyle turned out to be one of the founders of the Anodyne electric co., a record label started in Chicago with a satellite in NY. On a mission to bring the Anodyne movement to LA, Kyle proposed a super group of producers to put a compilation together. At this point ABF was re-united with old college buddy and former KCPR DJ, Chad (FONIKS) and the 5 started on a journey that has lead them here, with a promise for more adventure in the future. Special shout outs to our close friends and collaborators: Lyric Catalyst, Voice of God, Re27, DJ lady Sha, Peter, Sev, SOMBFAB, the mountain bar, the Mandrake bar, Golden Scarab Music and the list goes on for days. MAD LA love....
